GB deadweight pig prices (EU spec)

Updated weekly

The APP (All Pig Price) is the GB average deadweight pig price achieved by producers each week. The SPP (Standard Pig Price) is the average price for GB standard pigs, those that have not received a premium for the production system, feed regime or breed. The prices are collected from voluntary surveys. These prices are for carcases dressed to EU specification.

In the week ending 21 May, the EU spec SPP increased by 3.19p to 175.95p/kg, still a way off from matching the estimated cost of production, but heading in the right direction.

Estimated slaughter was down 3.7% this week to 178,600 head with average carcase weights at 91.06kg. These weights are down 5kg from their heaviest recording back in late January, but still remain 5kg heavier than at the same time last year.

In the week ending 14 May, the EU spec APP sat at 180.43p/kg, little change from the week previous (+0.36p). This narrows the gap between the two price series to 7.67p.

Deadweight pig price reporting: Information and FAQs

Please note that the prices shown in the tables on this web page may occasionally differ from the official SPP and APP prices contained within the PDF reports. This is due to rounding and we are working to align the systems. The  SPP and APP PDF reports can be downloaded using the links above on this page and contain additional price by weight band information to help provide more insight. If you have any questions please contact us at dead.weight@ahdb.org.uk

In April 2020 the weight bands we publish were amended. This report below provides some historical figures for comparison purposes. Data by weight band is published  on a weekly basis in our SPP full report. Please note there are minimum thresholds for publication to ensure our prices are as robust as possible and comply with competition law guidance. On occasions therefore a full breakdown of weekly prices and throughputs by weight band and prices by lean meat % may not be available.
