Thursday, 8 August 2019

Over 60 growers and agronomists gathered at RJ & AE Godfrey for our Strategic Potato (SPot) Farm North Open Day last month.

The trials, demonstrations and updates are designed to tackle the challenges facing growers this season and beyond. They included:

Dr Mark Stalham and AHDB's Dr Georgina Key updated the meeting on irrigation including recent work from across the national SPot network, much of which has informed the recently updated seasonal water management for potatoes publication.

Organic Matter

Dr Stalham also provided a review of the organic matter work, which was covered in more detail at the first field walk of the season.

Joe Martin revisited work from the residual herbicides trial. A technical report on both the organic matter and herbicides work can be found here.

Adrian Cunnington of AHDB and Mike Sharp of Welvent provided a storage update. While Will Gagg, the farm manager at RJ & AE Godfrey provided a tour of the farms new stores. In their role as SPot hosts, the farm is part of our national dormancy trial. Will explains more below.
