The Fungicide Resistance Action Group (FRAG-UK)
The AHDB-supported Resistance Action Groups (RAGs) are informal, UK-based groups consisting of experts from the Crop Protection Association (CPA) member companies, other representatives from the agrochemical industry, a range of independent organisations, including public-sector research institutes, and the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD).The groups are completely independent of AHDB and work to produce guidance on pesticide resistance issues. As part of its support to the resistance action groups, AHDB publishes FRAG guidance.

The decision not to renew authorisations for Plant Protection Products containing the active substance chlorothalonil (CTL) was announced in EU Implementing regulation (EU) 2019/677 (Implementing Regulation). In accordance with this decision, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced that the following grace periods will apply to these products:
- 20 November 2019 for sale and distribution
- 20 May 2020 for the disposal, storage and use of existing stocks
The loss of this multi-site will impact significantly on crop protection programmes, in terms of efficacy and resistance management. Even greater uptake of cultural and agronomic measures that reduce disease risk will be even more important. Consider the following:
- Varietal resistance provides a foundation for disease control
- Cultural controls (e.g. sowing date, seed rate and crop hygiene) can reduce disease pressure
The Fungicide Resistance Action Group – UK will publish optimal resistance management advice for use post-chlorothalonil. A more detailed statement will be issued in due course.
Fungicide Futures is an initiative led by AHDB and FRAG-UKto help put good anti-resistance practice at the heart of fungicide programmes. It gives you the facts so you can maximise return on investment and protect chemistry
