Assessment dates for the Pig Health Scheme
The Pig Health Scheme is a development of the former British Pig Health Scheme (BPHS). The assessors on the scheme monitor English pigs at slaughter for prevalence and severity of 12 conditions. Assessments (which began in March 2019) are carried out by specially trained veterinary assessors at 11 designated abattoirs throughout England.

As a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the increased pressure that plants and assessors were facing, we temporarily suspended Pig Health Scheme assessments in 2020.
We are pleased that assessments are now able to recommence in a small number of abattoirs and we will continue to review the situation on a weekly basis.
