New product development for the UK cut flower industry
New product development has been a key part of the Cut Flower Centre (CFC) remit since its inception, and over the years a wide range of plant species have been investigated in an attempt to identify new seasonal products for the UK cut flower market.
- Lyndon Mason, the CFC Project Manager, will present a summary of some of the work at the CFC to identify new products and how best to grow them, including trials on Aster ericoides, Astrantia, hardy foliage, ornamental grasses, Scabious, seed-raised fillers and Veronica.
- Ian Collison from J A Collison and Sons and Laura Tebby, Product Manager at Superflora will give both a grower’s and packer’s perspective on new product development, to include tips on how to make the all-important economics of production stack up when scaling up trial cropping to a commercial level, and how to gauge market potential.
This will be the first in a series of CFC webinars, the next presentation is planned for January 2021 where Lyndon Mason and Selchuk Kurtev, Certis, will update growers on the control of column stock downy mildew.
