Growing media developments and nutrient management in hardy nursery stock production: Leicester

For many years there has been a gradual move away from peat-based growing media within the industry towards the inclusion of other materials including bark, wood fibre, coir, and green compost.

Join us at this workshop for information on the transition from a dependence on peat to the uptake of a broad range of responsibly sourced growing media.

Find out about the model that predicts the performance of various raw materials when blended together across a range of different crops.

Growing media and nutrition go hand-in-hand, so there will be an overview of how to use hand-held monitoring devices to track nutrient use in hardy nursery stock. There will also be an introduction to the nutrient management work that has just kicked-off, covering both field- and container-grown nursery stock.

What’s in it for you?

  • Information on the transition to responsibly sourced growing media use in UK horticulture
  • An opportunity to input into the nutrient management work for hardy nursery stock
  • Herbicide performance in new growing media blends
  • Demonstrations and displays of real-time nutrient monitoring equipment
