You can order printed copies of our ‘Farming Food for You’ posters. This is a set of five posters that showcases life on the farm, how animals are reared and cared for, and how crops are grown and harvested. They cover dairy, beef, sheep, cereals and pigs.

Additional resources available include our new stickers, activity sheets for farm visits and leaflets about our Food – a fact of life programme.

AHDB partners with the British Nutrition Foundation to support food education in the UK and deliver the Food – a fact of life (FFL) programme.

The aim of the programme is to ensure that young people are better informed about where food comes from, as well as the skills and knowledge for cooking and healthy eating. It is designed for teachers of 3-to-16-year-olds and provides curriculum-relevant resources and teacher training.

Since 2018:

• Over 1.1 million users visited the FFL website
• Over 3 million downloads of FFL resources and recipes
• Over 2,800 attendees to our FFL teacher training events
• 85% of their pupils were better informed about where their food comes from
• 88% of their pupils were now better informed about healthy eating
• 69% of their pupils were better informed about how to cook

The main findings from those that attended the training events were:

• 84% had updated their teaching practice
• 97% were better informed about food skills
• 100% were more confident to teach food skills 

Countryside Classroom provides teachers with an online platform to find resources, places to visit and school support relating to the themes of food, farming and the natural environment.

It is a partnership of organisations that are committed to working together to represent these themes in and out of the classroom.

LEAF Education works with farmers and educators to bring farming into a learning context and embed an appreciation of farming into everyday life. This includes Farmer Time, an initiative to bring farming alive and directly into the classroom, and CEVAS (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme) which is a nationally recognised training programme to provide education visits on-farm.

LEAF Open Farm Sunday is managed by LEAF and since the first event back in in June 2006, farmers across the UK have opened their gates and welcomed over 2.9 million people on farms to find out more about how their food is produced. 

British Nutrition Foundation Healthy Eating Week is managed by the British Nutrition Foundation and is supported by industry organisations. It aims to bring the UK together, workplaces, universities, schools and nurseries, focusing on key health messages and promoting healthy habits.

NFU Education provides high quality primary STEM teaching resources and projects that are closely linked to the National Curriculum. These include Farmvention competition, Farming STEMterprise, and farmers available to speak at schools.

The Country Trust is a charity that is dedicated to bringing first-hand experience of food, farming and the land, to children least able to access it. Their activity is delivered through the Food Discovery and Farm Discovery programmes, countryside residentials and Farm in a Box. 

The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) works with volunteers across Scotland to provide free educational activities and experiential learning opportunities, bringing farming and the working countryside and its practices to life for young people. This includes access to its Resource Portal linked to the Curriculum of Excellence and the RHET Discovery Centre at the Royal Highland Show.
