Laura’s interest in agriculture grew when learning about plant sciences at University. During her undergraduate degree, she worked in a lab that was producing cocoa plantlets to replace dying trees in cocoa plantations. This led onto a Masters specialising in Crop Science. One of her first roles in her career was as a research technician at NIAB monitoring wheat brown rust as part of the UK Cereal Pathogen Virulence Survey. She couldn’t get enough of plant pathogens so this experience turned into a PhD on wheat yellow rust resistance at the University of Cambridge and NIAB, where she got to work more closely with the plant breeding industry and often spoke with farmers about plant disease resistance.
Her passion for knowledge exchange led her to her current role as Knowledge & Innovation Facilitator, which she took on while writing up her thesis. Since 2018, Laura supports knowledge exchange efforts at Sutton Bridge Crop Storage Research, and works closely with the AHDB Potatoes KE team. Storage is an integral part of the potato sector that is going through some significant changes. Laura is proud to be supporting levy payers through these challenging times. In addition to her role at AHDB, Laura also works at Agri-TechE, where she coordinates an Innovative Farmers project on soil health.
