Gracie Emeny has worked at AHDB for just over eight years and AHDB was her first experience of working within the horticulture industry having completed a Zoology undergraduate degree and MRes degree in Biology. It was her Master’s degree that made her realise that she wanted to work for a company that was involved in scientific research, so Gracie says the opportunity to join the horticulture team at AHDB was perfect. She originally started in the research admin team, before moving to the Knowledge Exchange team in 2014 where she has been ever since.
The main focus areas of Gracie’s role job are all things to do with labour in horticulture, whether that be shortages, issues with productivity or looking to the future to find new robotics or technologies that could displace some labour requirements. She’s also involved in planning events, training workshops, big conferences and international study tours and finds getting out and running workshops and events for growers the most rewarding aspects of her role. Gracie particularly enjoys working with businesses through our Strategic SmartHort Centres as seeing people recognise the impact that adopting Lean could have, and the productivityovements that they could make in their businesses, is really rewarding.
