Georgina has worked at AHDB for five years having trained as an ecologist with a specific interest in agriculture and horticulture. She then worked in academia for several years on integrated pest management and soil fertility. After a switch in career working as a professional gardener for a year, she started at AHDB.
In her role, she says that there is no typical day as she could either be out on the road at events, visiting growers or trial sites, or at meetings. Her role is to identify priorities for growers and build a research programme to address those priorities. She does this mainly for the ornamentals sector, but it is also her job to identify where there is crossover with other sectors. More recently, she has become part of the environment team and will be responsible for any agroecological work that AHDB does. She describes visiting and collaborating with growers as the most rewarding aspect of her role.
