Milk forecasting forum
Updated 17 December 2020
Milk production is a fundamental driver of market dynamics in Great Britain. We hold a milk forecasting forum twice a year, where representatives from across the industry debate, analyse and discuss the key factors influencing production. Here you can find the latest information shared with the group.
Summary
The AHDB Milk Forecasting Forum (MFF) met on the 1 September to discuss the factors impacting on future GB milk production. These included:
- Recent trends in herd size and milk yields
- The impact of some farmers reducing milk production through lockdown
- How feed supplies are shaping up for the winter

GB milk solids production forecast - April 2020
While the milk production forecast was for no change year-on-year, our milk solids forecasts predicts a marginal (0.2%) increase in solids (fat + protein) production, based on long-term genetic improvements. However, this does not account for the potential impacts of coronavirus on milk production. For more information, read our article here.
