UK human and industrial cereal usage
This information shows the use of cereals by flour millers, brewers maltsters and distillers (monthly) and oat millers (quarterly) in the UK. It is used to produce the UK cereals supply and demand estimates.
Overview: November 2020
- In November 2020 wheat usage by the UK milling industry(1) was 7.9% lower on the year at 466.1 thousand tonnes. Home grown wheat usage was down 29.9% to 315.6 thousand tonnes and imported wheat usage was 170.2% more at 150.5 thousand tonnes.

From July to November 2020, UK millers(1) used 1.1% less wheat year on year. Home grown wheat usage declined by 14.2% whilst imported increased by 85.1% over the same period.

In November 2020 barley usage by UK brewers, maltsters and distillers was 11.8% lower than the same period in 2019 at 139.0 thousand tonnes. Wheat used by UK brewers, maltsters and distillers was 33.8% higher year on year at 73.2 thousand tonnes.
