UK human and industrial cereal usage

• In November 2020 wheat usage by the UK milling industry⁽¹⁾ was 7.9% lower on the year at 466.1 thousand tonnes. Home grown wheat usage was down 29.9% to 315.6 thousand tonnes and imported wheat usage was 170.2% more at 150.5 thousand tonnes.

• From July to November 2020, UK millers⁽¹⁾ used 1.1% less wheat year on year. Home grown wheat usage declined by 14.2% whilst imported increased by 85.1% over the same period.

• In November 2020 barley usage by UK brewers, maltsters and distillers was 11.8% lower than the same period in 2019 at 139.0 thousand tonnes. Wheat used by UK brewers, maltsters and distillers was 33.8% higher year on year at 73.2 thousand tonnes.
